Your 4-Week Training to Faster Lap Times

The concept of the Sim Pure Pace MasterClass is simple; we provide you with a step-by-step course on the core fundamentals of racecraft, and then get on the track with a group of students, me (Scott Mansell) and my coaches and to practice and critique your race craft.

You’ll shortcut my 25 years of learning as I transfer my knowledge as efficiently as possible.

I have seen both beginner and advanced drivers lose significant time and consistency due to an incorrect understanding of racing fundamentals. Focusing on learning and drilling these techniques have proven to improve the consistency and ability to find the limit of all my students regardless of their level.

Week 1: Vision

If you don’t have your vision in the right areas on track and moving at the right time, you’ll be off the pace and constantly make mistakes. Our “Vision Week” teaches you how to permanently change where you’re looking, to give you the right information at the right time.

Week 2: Steering

We often see sim racers driving on a self-induced limit – they look fast, but are ultimately off the pace. During “Steering Week”, you’ll learn how to get the most out of your chosen car when driving through a corner, meaning faster cornering and ultimately a quicker lap time.

Week 3: Braking

There is a lot of time to be found on the brakes. If you want to fulfil your driving potential your braking technique needs to be perfect. During “Braking Week” you’ll work on maximising the braking phase and building speed with trail braking.

Week 4: Grip Generation & Limit Manipulation

The final 1% of lap time comes from adapting your technique to get the most from your car at each phase of the corner. We’ve developed a process to refine this and during “Grip Week” you learn exactly how to drive your car on the absolute limit, every lap.

Your Fastest Route to the Podium

Step 1: Understand

Understand techniques and details that’ll make you faster. In this exclusive content, head coach Scott Mansell explains the tools you need to lap quicker.

Step 2: Embed

To be fast, you need perfect technique at your fingertips. Our on-track exercises will embed perfect technique and embed it to your memory.

Step 3: Crush Blockages

Sometimes we need some one-to-one advice to tweak our driving. Finish each week with some live instruction from Scott and his team of experienced sim coaches.

I've spent countless hours, many of it frustrated trying as hard as I could.

I've bought books, got help for everyone I could and even paid for help.

Since I've learned in detail how vision helps time driver inputs [via this course], I've placed 2nd in 6h ELMS Monza & 6h ELMS Sebring, won a solo victory in VLN, and am now competing above my iRating in LMP1.

Preparing for the Indy eSports Series and adapting to iRacing was an eye-opener for me. Because of the diferences with the real world, I was struggling with my consistency and how to find the last %2 in my lap times.

However, in just a week, by helping me with my equipment, games settings like FOV and by running laps with detailed telemetry analysis, I was on pace with the top drivers who had been playing iRacing for years! They were great and fun to work with, and made a huge improvement!.

Tony Kanaan, Indy Car Series Champion and Indy 500 winner

Before the training my best time was a 59:875. I didn't know what else to do and could not get the time down no matter what! After the training I did around 30 laps and managed to get my timing down to 59:405. Most importantly, I managed to do it very consistently.

My driving style has changed and I believe I will be soon able to lap in the 58's. I feel a lot more confident with my new driving style, more involved, more organic, and much more consistent.

I’m Scott, founder of Driver61,
I create championship winning racing drivers.

Hi, I’m Scott Mansell (from the Driver’s University) and I’d like to introduce the Driver61 MasterClass, a practical driving course to make permanent improvements to your circuit driving.

I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 15 years – and thousands of hours – of my life racing and coaching at circuits around the world.

During this time, I’ve seen many drivers – even the experienced guys – get the fundamental techniques of driving completely wrong.

The unfortunate thing is they never get close to reaching their full potential and waste a lot of time and money along the way.

With this in mind, I’ve designed an intensive single-day driving course that quickly instils proper technique and creates lasting changes to make you faster, safer and more consistent.

Further Details

I hold the course in iRacing using the MX-5 car. The iRacing simulator’s physics combined with the MX-5 are the perfect platform for understanding weight balance and grip at a speed that leaves mental capacity for interalizing techniques.

The course takes places over 4 weeks that includes instruction delivered via our online learning platform (mobile and web supported) and four on track sessions with me and our coaches. During these sessions, you will be pair with an instructor and 4 other students, all being coached on the techniques taught that week, and your overall pace. I’ll also be stopping by to give my feedback on your pace as well.

On the track days, by leveraging the streaming features of Discord, my instructors and I can both teach you on the track then live view and correct your technique to maximize your time with us.

Our MasterClass takes place over 4 weeks. Each week you will recieve detailed technique training and drills to run on your simulator.

Then, every Sunday, you join my instructors and I on the track for training. You’ll be grouped with 4 other students and an instructor who will all be practicing the newly learned techniques and getting up to speed on different tracks.

  • Week 1 – Vision Technique and Drills
  • Week 2 – Steering Technique and Drills
  • Week 3 – Braking Technique and Drills
  • Week 4 – Weight Balance Technique and Drills

I use a MX-5 car during the MasterClasses and often get asked why. Even though the MX-5 isn’t the fastest car, it’s perfect for training.

  • It’s set up perfectly for the type of training. The balance is right, plus softer suspension means any issues with technique are highlighted.
  • It’s slower, meaning more mental capacity available for analysing your own inputs and improving technique.
  • I have often found that faster cars hide core fundamental mistakes that you are making. You’ll be amazed how well a slower car highlights those mistakes and how you will then be able to see those mistakes in faster cars.
  • Because it’s a slower car, there is more time in the corner and on the limit for longer. More time in that zone means faster learning.
  • The process that we’ll go through – with regard to self-analysis and execution – means you’ll easily be able to transfer the learning into your track cars.

For a limited time and number of students, I am offering my Sim Fundamentals MasterCourse for an introductory rate please enquire for more details.

Note that all tracks and the MX-5 are included with the basic iRacing subscription, so all you need is an iRacing subscription to join the training.

From Tutorials to Track

Learning about proper technique through our tutorials is an excellent starting point, but the MasterClass course will help you take the next step with your driving performance.

Here are a few things (plus much more) you’ll learn:

  • How looking in the right place makes you faster
  • How find the optimum racing line depending on your car
  • How to find the limit of grip quickly and consistently
  • How to have a car break the limit progressively
  • How to manipulate the limit of grip and push your previous “limit” further
  • How to manage weight transfer to alter a car’s balance
  • How to use trail braking to use 100% of a car’s available grip
  • How to improve consistency

What Clients Are Saying

“The program worked for me. I’m practicing for endurance race and my team mate is normally 1 sec faster than me all the time. I applied what I learned in the class and after 3 practice sessions I am .300 behind. The looking ahead and loading the car are what I think have really helped. ” – John S

“Before the training I had done about 40 to 60 laps to get to know the training track and my best time was a 59:875. I didn’t know what else to do and could not get the time down no matter what! After the training I did around 30 laps and managed to get my timing down to 59:405. Most importantly, I managed to do it very consistently.

My driving style has changed and I believe I will be soon able to lap in the 58’s. I feel a lot more confident with my new driving style, more involved, more organic, and much more consistent” – Valter

“The program showed me how wrong I was with all of the things I thought I was doing right before. I’ve now been equipped with tools to self-diagnose when I’m having issues on track, and know what to do to fix my issues.” – iRacer, 2200 iRating

I continue to be impressed with Scott as a coach. He’s a great guy. A great communicator. A great motivator.

I completed my 2nd and 3rd training days with Scott. We booked a back-to-back session so we could do a deeper dive and refine what I had learned in our first session. Scott’s teaching approach helps the student build the necessary skills and self-confidence to drive safely on the edge and recognize when the driver can get even more out of the car.

Scott constantly questioned me about how I negotiated a turn and then forced me to focus on what was happening in the car. What would I have to do to go faster? Where was the weight? Did the car understeer or oversteer? How smooth or abrupt were my control inputs and how did that impact the car’s balance? I came away with a framework that helps me analyze my driving and use that analysis to seek more speed with confidence.
